Having written the lyrics for all but one of the songs in the Kampfire, and being the operator of the chainsaw and projector, I was naturally anxious that it went well. It did. Kit had mangled and punkified some of the beautiful tunes I had in my head for the songs, but that did give them a certain extra vigour I admit. The event was an ironic reference to the current hipster lumberjack look and I was pleased that we got a younger audience that got the joke. I was worried that we might have an audience who were simply mystified or baffled. Another worry, and the biggest one, was that there had been hardly any time at all to rehearse, the songs had to be made as simple as possible along with the set and props. With such a rushed job there was always the the thought that it could go badly wrong.
It is always pleasing to see the shop packed to capacity but what pleases me most is when the musicians tell me Atticus is the best venue in the festival. That makes it all worthwhile for me and I'm very grateful.
