I have been listening to more lectures on language, and what particularly interests me are the several levels of system and rules. There is something that seems like a universal innate grammar, an informal untaught grammar, formal untaught grammar and blackboard grammar. This would seem to be true for both spoken and written language. A move from formal to informal seems to be taking place in parallel with the move from print to visual.
There are interesting conflicts and painful - for some - changes going on.
