I've been out promoting learning all this week, as it is Adult Learners Week and time to fly the flag. Of course, these days learning is all about getting back into work or improving health. Both of which mean lower costs for the Government, which can then lower taxes for those rich enough enough never to think about going back and sitting in a classroom full of oiks. A strange business to be in.
Much stress was caused by loosing two black objects, a case containing a promotional banner and my work phone. Both were eventually found, but only after helicopters, snifferdogs and teams of specially trained bees had been called in.
The problem was that both black objects had been placed on black surfaces and become practically invisiible. I have had this problem before with phones and sworn to buy a bright eye-catching case that will stand out in any environment.
This is not as easy as it seems I found out.
Most bright phone cases are covered with scarlet hearts, flowers, cute cartoons and othere girly stuff. Finding a simple crimson or lime green phone case at the rights size and price is proving difficult.
Of course, I could not possibly be seen, alive or dead, with hearts, flowers, or even spots.
I did think about spots.
Actually paused and thought about the possibilty of brightly coloured spots.
Then I remembered seeing a photo of young Brooke in a pair of spotty shorts, grinning like a maniac. (Imagine Jack Nicholson in The Shining wearing spotty shorts.)
No good will come of this I thought.
She is bound to come crashing back down from such maniac heights, and a hard landing it will be.
So far as I know she is still flapping her wings and flying high - probably wearing the same spotty shorts - having just got a scholarship to Germany.
Germany, the fabled land of sun and fun!
A sentence that begs for an emoticon.
I will be proved right after she finds she has put on over fifty kilos by living on a diet of sausage and beer.
Rice and Tuac is her natural food and Indonesia her back yard.
Germany!
So naturally I rejected spots.
Life is rather dull at the moment, but the lectures on the origins of life have left me with a lot to think about. A lot of this I should have known earler. Some I did, but it was all fragmentary and listening to the lectures has pulled things together.
In this week's New Scientist there is piece about Boltzmann Brains.
Read about it in the Huff Post
After reading about BBsI couldn't help thinking the report in the Oinion, that Ancient Greece was invented by maverick historians was more than plausible.
Boltzmann Brains were not covered in the lectures I listened to. Thank God!
Or Bolzmann.
They did mention Steven Wolfram though, and his New Kind of Science (NKS)
I know very little about him but got the impression that he is a clever man with a colossal ego, and teetering on the edge of the Precipice of Bonkers.
And his website is rather fun http://www.wolfram.com
