I was going to call this Orientalism and Evening Mists but that sounded a bit pretentious and I then came across the burnt lizard's tail story on Brain Pickings.
I have just readThe Garden of Evening Mists* and though I enjoyed it I found what we used to call the subtext more interesting than the actual narrative.
One could deduce a lot about the author through the style and plot and the critical reception of the novel.
Has any one else here read it? What did you think?
Here's the lizard story. Anyone want to help me build a rocket?
