Even if you have not been reading this blog - why on earth would you? - you will probably have read in the papers, seen on TV and Facebook news of my recent injuries and wish to know how things are now.
I am now able to manage stairs, baths and standing up but still approach them cautiously. The strange night pains in my heels seem to be lessening. Is strange pain worse than ordinary pain? In a way it is because of the added element of, 'Ouch I never knew my ------------ could hurt like that! Oddly disturbing is the fact my hands have started to go to sleep at night. Or perhaps it is that I am waking up before my hands. That would make more sense as I don't expect my hands to stay awake as the rest of me goes to sleep. Except my ears. They catch up on their sleep during the day. At night they are supposed to be on guard against foxes and creatures of the night who may sneak in and ....
Searching for symptoms on the internet is fun as you quickly realised that the natural state of the human body is one of chronic ill health and on any average Sunday it is possible to dicover you have arthritist, schistomiasis, elephantiasis, flossy jaw or Stendhal Sydrome - I have a friend with that! - and so on.
Films watched recently:
White Material dir. Claire Denis. Isabelle Huppert plays the owner of a coffee plantation and the film is a brilliant but disturbing view of the colony legacy in West Africa. It cries out for 'compare and contrast' with Indochine
Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris Fun if you play the game of spot the famous writer or artist for points. Watch out for those glimpsed in the background.
The Countess dir. and acted by Julie Delpy. The story of Erzebet Bathory - a name that can only be pronounced correctly after two bottles of strong Hungarian red wine - better known to you and me as The Tigress of Csejte or Countess Dracula. I came across this film by accident while looking for an Indonesian film. Julie Delpy's acting is marvellous and so are the sets and costumes and tableaus that often resemble renaissance paintings. But the English script seemed very lame in places. I thought the film must have been badly dubbed, but it seems it was made in English. Still if you like your horror arty then you won't be disappointed.
Books. Still reading Menuju Titik Nol.
