Mall!
Mewah;
Etalase
Selera;
Tenagaku
disewa;
Kantong
Kecewa;
sistem,
tercela.
The poem is by Max Lane, who did the brilliant translations of Pramoedya.
It should be read aloud. The Indonesian c is pronounced ch and go for e as the ay in hay ( except in sistem which is as it looks.)
It makes much better sense in Indonesian but rather lame translation -Max does not give one - might be:
Mall!
Luxury;
Windows
Desire;
Myspirit
forhire
Mypocket
Disappointed;
System,
Despicable
The thing is that the Indonesian version with its rhyme reminds me of an English rhyme but I can't remember what it is.
Does anyone know?
