My back has been very painful for the last week, and worse the pain has moved to my thigh. So I have been starting the day by standing up then crying out Yarrrrrgh! and falling over. It takes an hour or two for the muscles to relax and let me move around easily. Sitting down for more than half an hour and the back stiffens up but it is no longer twinging and twanging. I have a word of advice for anyone with twinges. Don't stand next to someone holding a full cup of coffee. Unless you don't like the person, of course. In that case it is the perfect excuse.
On Saturday I went to a writing sortofconference day in Birmingham called The Writers' Toolkit. It was organised by Jonathan Davidson who also runs the Birmingham Book Festival and all kinds of interesting literature work across the West Midlands. It was good to see that Jonathan had not changed, his witty and relaxed style of chairing discussions still made me laugh and gave the day a very informal yet very serious and informative atmosphere. I did not know most of the delegates but there were a few speakers I used to know from the days before SOAS...
But why should I spend time describing the day to you when one of the delegates Fiona Joseph has written about it in detail on her blog?

If you do look at Fiona's blog read about her biography of Beatrice Cadbury. A very interesting story and one I'd like to read - if only I had time.
I'm still struggling with the new Mac OS Lion and cloud computing. I think it is a big step forward but it does mean I have to have new iPads, pods, phones and desktops. Isn't Christmas coming soon? Despite liking the new features of Lion it has meant I have had to spend long hours tweaking that resulted in severe twinges and twanging.
Please don't feel obliged to send emails, texts and letters of sympathy.
